MASQUERADE PARTY, 33 Apocalypse Ave, Friday Evening

Party night. The best of nights. An ornate sign on 33 Apocalypse’s door invited all to knock and make themselves known.

The space inside was bigger than it looked from the outside, stretched and displaced by magic. The wallpaper was green and textured, hinting at the English countryside. On one side of the room sat a significant bar offering food and drinks, while the other gave ample space to sit. A large Jenga tower held prominence in a corner.

It was easy to miss it, though, in favor of the little streams of water that ran across furniture and floor. Tiny glass gondolas, animated by magic, made their way back and forth across each stream. The gondolas were real, though the water itself was an illusion. It called attention to the ceiling, doubly enchanted: both to draw all cigarette smoke to itself so it wouldn’t blow in anyone’s face, but also to mimic the starry sky above Venice.

You could watch the stars twinkle, or see the occasional cloud go by. Magical fireflies added to the illusion, dancing through the air like tiny lights. If you listened closely, you could hear the sea rolling in across an invisible beach. Even the air smelled faintly of it: the sea, warm food and good wine.

Welcome to Eliot and Margo’s pad, people. They’d make damn sure you had a good time.

[ocd up, come party!]

"I don't believe so," Eliot agreed. "I'm Eliot. Welcome to our home. Do let me know if you need anything while you're here?"

"Seivarden Vendaai."

She wasn't going to ask where the drinks were immediately.

"So, where can I drink."

She grinned. It was a perfectly normal way to start a party after all.

Ah! An individual after his own heart.

"Everywhere," Eliot said, gesturing grandly. "But let me show you our bar. I've prepared a number of cocktails, but our signature for the night is a 'death in the afternoon', a delightful combination of champagne, simple syrup, and absinthe."

"An unexpected combination," Seivarden, who's standards when it came to alcohol had been sinking lately, said. "I'd be happy to try it. Maybe even make a bad copy of it as a Caritas special."

"Well, if it's a bad copy, do be sure to change the name a little," Eliot said. "Though . . . I am something of a specialist in mixology, so I suppose it can't help but be anything but, in comparison. . . ."

He led the way towards the bar, scooping up the appropriate bottles. "Now, one more question: are you looking to hallucinate at all this evening, or no?"

That would tell him which absinthe to use, the enchanted one or the regular.

Seivarden knew she would say no.

"Of course. Well, depending on the options."

"I've enchanted this bottle to give you a nice, gentle trip," Eliot said, holding the bottle aloft. "All good feelings and happy colors. And I assure you, I know my hallucinogens."

He started mixing the drink with a great deal of showmanship -- while also ensuring that everything going into the glass happened well within Seivarden's view. There would be no roofying at this party if he could help it, and no suspicions thereof, either.

(And if doing so allowed her to see that no bare fingers touched any part of the glass that her mouth would also touch, that was non-deliberate on his part, but hopefully a perk for her sensibilities.)
